It is time to get over the 2020 election. What’s done is done. You can’t change history. We have now survived 75% of the Biden Administration and, with luck, may survive the remainder of it. What is important is whether we have a country after the next election.
A fan of neither candidate nor an election denier, I look at the past objectively:
1. If you do anything (like voting) 155 million times over a few days it is virtually impossible to do so flawlessly. Unavoidably, some votes go wrong, either in marking or tabulating ballots.
2. What matters is how many votes, in absolute numbers (a difference of 7,059,547 votes) and relatively (a difference of 4.5%), are likely to have been in error or mishandled. That question is not easy. In a world where all ballots are hand counted it is VERY hard to say the error/skullduggery factor would be that high.
3. On the other hand, electronic vote casting and counting introduce the opportunity for mischief on a grand scale, especially when things are done under cover of darkness.
4. Then, there is the cancellation factor. It is absurd to assume that there are errors and fraudsters only on one side. The very strong probability is that the number of nitwits and crooks are about the same on each side. If so, their activities, on a vote-by-vote basis, cancel each other out. The number of misplaced remaining votes, net after such a cancelling effect, are likely extremely small. But, of course when things are equally divided, it only takes one. There will be errors in the next election also.
5. It is equally difficult to imagine an election in which one candidate essentially never leaves the basement of his home but still wins against an incumbent.
We will never know. Deal with it.
The REAL issue
The “Steal” was about spiriting a robust economy out from under a sitting president in the last year of his term. In the history of medical science there have been very few vaccines (and NO cures) for any virus and the few vaccines took years to prove their merit. Prior to March 2020 the US Food and Drug Administration had never approved any drug that was based on operating on a patient’s messenger RNA (mRNA). Miraculously, vaccines for COVID-19 were “found” to be safe under the FDA’s “Emergency Use Authorization” (EUA) within mere weeks in 2020. An EUA is issued when regulators deem the benefits exceed the cost (risk) of a drug. It is very easy to believe that one of the benefits calculated into the analysis in 2020 was a political one. Evidence is building that the same number of people died during the “announced pandemic” as in any other period of time of the same length. COVID was all about tilting the “official” cause of death just enough to stampede a gullible public. In time it will not be surprising if we learn that deaths ascribed to other causes declined from expectations during the COVID period, and in about the same amount as excess flu deaths rose. It will just be counting.
Prior to March, 2020 the economy was ostensibly sound, unemployment was at an all-time low, markets were strong. Only a crash in the economy could prevent the re-election of the President. When those in power centers other than the Presidency moved to shutdown the economy to accommodate the (real or imagined) pandemic, they were saying “We don’t care how the supply chain is disrupted, how many people go bankrupt, lose their homes or marriages, fall into depression or alcoholism, commit suicide, die from a vaccine not fully tested, or how many children lose two important formative years in their education. All of those costs are less than the benefit of getting rid of this President.”
Maybe.
Decades of soft living, bailouts, other government-sponsored “Savior” activities and an education system in which two generations of teachers are clueless about sound reasoning left us with a poorly educated and uninformed electorate. Such a group is easily led astray. Sheep beget sheep. Four years later, with two years less schooling, they are even less equipped to make informed and rational decisions.
This year
The indictments are not trivial. There must be some accountability within the Rule of Law. If criminal jurisprudence were free of politics (another stretch), this would work fine. But it isn’t or Hillary Clinton would be in jail right now with 14 million illegal aliens, waiting for Donald Trump to join them. One-sided prosecutorial zeal invites further examination. Whether it involves 12 jurors or 9 Supreme Court Justices, again, it is no more than counting, just a smaller number of votes to count. A State that does not trust the intelligence of millions of its citizens never wants to hear from those voters. Having one candidate voted out by a tiny handful of people in a courtroom is just a judicial variant of totalitarianism.
January 6 was a BIG deal
What makes January 6, 2021 important is that it sharpens the debate over which extreme of the political spectrum is more willing to tolerate a civil war. That debate needs to take place instead of the war implied by it. The Tytler Conjecture posits that all democracies devolve into totalitarianism. Godwin’s Law says that either side in a shouting contest is equally likely to end up at an extreme. These are the realities of life. They are not new. Reasonable men of high intelligence and good intent debated among themselves prior to the revolution that started this country. Expect the same prior to the revolution that ends it. Despising a tyrant in England in 1770 and despising the equivalent in Washington DC 250 years later may be separated by time and context, but at base it is still just despising tyrants.
What we need
We did not have this problem in 1984. Ronald Regan carried 49 states. That did NOT include Washington DC, showing the Deep State is not a recent concept, just more effective today.
The math is not hard. Find a candidate that makes the counting not even close and this problem goes away. Until then, by my count, we have two tyrants to chose from.
Great article Roger. If only we can get our main stream media telling the truth just like you.
